The Importance of Open Hands

The multi-purpose usage of our hands extends from touching, pulling, grabbing, releasing and holding. And most of the time, the initiating, leading movement of reaching towards someone or something.  But within all of the applications of the hands, the most important is the function of holding.  When our hands are holding on to something, it's representative of our heart's desire.  In other words, our hands are following through on the intent our mind and heart is seeking.

Holding on is a foundational value.  However, within the metamorphosis of a believer in God, we begin to understand it's not only about holding on to our spiritual beliefs and attributes as set by Christ, but the willingness to surrender to God's omnipresent ways.  This surrendered existence is the key that helps us to relax causing an openness within ourselves allowing us to begin to receive.

Open hands was never designed to only be about serving or giving to others.  As important as it is to take care of one another, we must remember to take care of ourselves as well.  Having and maintaining a surrendered open mind, heart and hands towards God is the best form of receiving spiritual nutrition.  This daily infusion of God's presence strengthens us, edifies us with direction, peace and comfort as we go forward assisting others in the love of Christ.
